Where does it say anything about rises in the books for spell casting?
I can't find anything that mentions it. The rules to my knowledge say the force you choose is the most hits you can get not net hits.

how is this happening?

That's not a force test. That's a success test.
Your dice pool can't exceed your force it says at the bottom.
If you have to choose a force for the spell you can't use net hits, only the hits up to your force.
if you are casting a force 3 spell like you thing you did the other week. You can get 3 hits to cast it. That's why you choose force.
Your current spell is fine. just your force spells don't work the same way.

I may write this again with examples.

No-one is arguing that. I have a dice pool of 19. 6 rolled a success. 3 of those are used in a force three spell to determine effect and force to be resisted.

Incorrect.

1 hit would have been a success for Shagrat but the extra 2 hits mean the Tn to resist the spell is set at 3 (being the full force value of the spell cast). The remaining hits are all wasted as they exceed the spell force value.


The force of the spell has no effect on the dice pool only on the maximum # of hits that can be achieved.

As a side note;

The spell just cast would be unlikely to affect anyone viewing the target through a camera at that force rating.

patched like any normal software (follow the rules for each component
program, however all changes must be done together).

interpretation of this rule matty?
do we have to crack each program one by one. eg half an hour tests of 9+ for common and 13+ for hacking..

or in order to do them all at the same time make half hour test of 9+ rating of all programs and 13+ rating of all caking programs?

one being time consuming the other difficult.

we have the source code for both program suites we plan to copy, just need to work out if its going to take us forever or if its just hard.

It means you have to make the usual test for each program in the suite and they have to be made one after another. You can't just do one or a few of the programs, they all have to be done and all one after another prior to any of them working.

Flux broadcasts another message to the runners.

"Hey fellas! Me and the Sprites are doing some 'trix upgrades on our collective software and network topology. If your commlink security is alerted contact me immediately. We'll be in and out in as quickly as we can though."

I will engage Arcadia, Xander and Mr. Gasket in conversation regarding our software copy protection cracking tasks.

"So I was thinking that as the other runners programs are all registered, they're a bit of a loose cannon for us in the matrix. So I propose we improve their programs code. We can utilise Canyons Nexus for our programming environment, it's nice and roomy. Xander, could be a doll and stabilize the node for us whilst Mr. Gasket provides us with valuable insight to improve our overall outcome and Arcadia, you know I just love having you around. We'll be rushing to get this little bit done before preparations for our next job commence.

[OOC] This will equate to Arcadia responding to my analyze, Xander using 'Stabilize' on the node for up to 3 tasks whilst Mr. Gasket will use 'Diagnostics' on the node using up to 3 tasks. The math will look horrible but it's nessecary.
