The general consensus on census. Empty
PostSubject: The general consensus on census.   The general consensus on census. EmptySat 12 Jan 2013 - 0:07

Early in the morning Iron Duke Steelbloom makes his way to the castle proper to seek an audience with Captian Donk, enquiring with the castle guard and attendants. Once Donk is found Aizen politely bows and exchanges pleasantries before expressing his need to speak with him of more important matters.

Goodmorning Captain Donk. I trust I find you well this day. If I may have your ear for but a few moments there is a matter of which I wish to discuss with you.

I am currently unaware of what records regarding the people of the Iron Ridge have survived the turmultous period prior to King Blackwells ascension to the throne. If such information still exists how complete is it?

Should this information be unavailable or incomplete then I would propose that we conduct a new census to bring our records back to a satisfactory condition. This information should include the number of people in the kingdom, their sex, age, their station, primary occupation, fittingness for military duty, etc..

This information is vital for us to properly strategise and execute any plan for expansion of the Kingdom. I was hoping to work closely with yourself to make this happen and begin formulating a profitable and expansive future for all here in the Iron Ridge Region.

Aizen waits patiently for Donk to respond before saying anything more.

Donk contemplates your idea while chewing slowly on a chunk of day old bread.
I see no problem with your idea Duke, we are over due for a good roll call! Who do you propose we get to preform this "census"?

Aizen develops a small tick under his left eye, that is present for merely a moment, in response to yet again having half his words ignored and questions unanswered by the backwards and irritatingly moronic dirt farmers of the Iron Ridge region.

Ah.....straight to the point then I see. Well as it happens I may be able to supply a portion of the man power to perform such a task.

Well if you have the man power to spare then have at it! Talk to the Keeper he may be able to advise you on how to proceed, the man should have been involved in some similar endeavours over the years.

Iron Duke Aizen Steelbloom sets off to speak with Keeper Moose ?? in relation to finding out everything about the old records and organizing with him to conduct the new Iron Ridge Census in the Year of the Crustacean.

Upon finding and formally greeting Keeper Moose ?? ;

Greetings Keeper, I trust I find you in good health this morn. I am interested in the old records that may still be available at the keep regarding the people of the Iron Ridge region. Numbers, sex, ages, skills etc. It is my belief that this information will allow King Blackwell and the other Iron Dukes to better navigate the coming year with planning for prosperity.

I have spoken with Captain Donk and expressed my eagerness to conduct a more up-to-date census of the Iron Ridge region and its populace. To that end I wish to analyse the old documents and begin preparing to carry out a new one. I was hoping to gain some insight from yourself about the process and take on board any improvements that could benefit my endeavor.

"My health is satisfactory Duke Steelbloom. Regarding the records you are looking for i am unable to provide them for you. King Blackwells predecessor ordered all documents in the forts library destroyed prior to his exodus. I carried out the order myself, the destruction was complete."

He pauses for a moment, studying your eyes with his stoic gaze.

"Previous census of the Iron region were generally broken down into five different areas; Blackwell castle and its surrounding area, The west mountains, The east mountains, The northern flatland's and the southern flatland's. The divider between north and south was marked by the river. The old Lord would send five of his officers with escort, one to each sector, the census would generally take between two and three months and be performed every half dozen years."

The Keeper sits patiently, waiting for any further questions

"Iron Duke Aizen Steelbloom, it has come to my attention that you have been taking an interest in the records of our kingdom. Also I know that you are conveying the lands and trying to sure up connections with surrounding regions and forge guilds among our nations professions. This sort of planning has always been beyond me but if I have learnt anything in my role as a leader it is when to recognize strength in strategy and leadership. Now in you I see the makings of a bureaucrat and I wish to offer you what meager abilities I have in this area, BAHH. Is there anything I can help you with in these endevours? Also I would like to bury the hatchet between us if there is indeed one to bury. I will have no poo poo. It is important to rule out poo poos when they occur. You should never ignore a poo poo. You know, if there's one thing I've learnt from being in the Army, it's never ignore a pooh-pooh. I knew a Major, who got pooh-poohed, made the mistake of ignoring the pooh-pooh. He pooh-poohed it! Fatal error! 'Cos it turned out all along that the soldier who pooh-poohed him had been pooh-poohing a lot of other officers who pooh-poohed their pooh-poohs. In the end, we had to disband the regiment. Morale totally destroyed... by pooh-pooh!

.

Thank you Keeper Moose, for your time and insight. I shall begin with the southern flatlands and will return with the results to yourself for record. First I shall produce a tracking system to record my findings so that it can be distilled down to refined information. For posterity and the well-being of King Brutus Blackwell and his people. Unless you already had one in mind?

Lord Aizen bows curtly once he has finished with the Keeper and heads out in the direction of the tavern for a breakfast ale.

...

Aizen stops walking as he notices a sudden solar eclipse taking place above him. Looking up he can't help but notice the hulking giant of a man that is Melchid Rock Bite.

He greets Melchid with his usual expressionless stare, peering from underneath his green and white striped hat at the 10 foot tall Goliath before him.

"Hey! It's Iron Duke Melchid Rock Bite! You made it! I though we might have lost you back up on that mountain top. I didn't dwell on such negative thoughts of course but it is a relief to see you again and know that nothing untoward had occurred."

"I'm flattered that you would take any interest in me at all but alas, with the menial tasks that I perform here and around Blackwell Castle your help would be ill-suited and detract from some far more important role involving bloodshed, old war stories and moustaches. I would apologize if for any reason I have given you the impression of anything but open and honest relations between us and I promise to come to you directly should I find a hatchet that needs burying."

Lord Aizen reaches into his sleeve and produces his eloquent pipe so slowly that with his expression, gaze and measured movements it gives the impression of a doll. He resuscitates the smoke and blows out a few perfect smoke rings producing a new one upon each utterance of 'pooh-pooh'.

"On second thought, Iron Duke Melchid Rock Bite, perhaps there is something you might be able to assist me with, even if some things are beyond you. I wish to identify the skilled tradespeople here in Iron Ridge in the interest of increasing the population's skill base. I speak of course of those whom are regarded as artisans of their craft. Should you hear of something of that kind then please do not hesitate to approach me with the information.

"Now Iron Duke Melchid Rock Bite I must take my leave as I have more menial tasks to perform before nap time and morning tea. Farewell."

Lord Aizen casually strolls away turning a corner and flash-stepping out of sight.

General Melchid seems almost hypnotised at the smoke rings. He suddenly gets the urge to pull his own pipe out and smoke some mountain weed. His pipe is an elegantly carved piece of ivory from a highland mammoth with the bowl of the pipe carved into the head of a bull elephant.

He proceeds to draw heavily from it and calls out to his dwarven friend before he leaves.

"You give me a great idea. I will put word out that the iron duke Melchid wishes a great shield made with the crest of his house adorn its expertly crafted face. The smith that can produce the finest steel shield worthy of the general, that has the greatest engraving, finest quality metal and smoothest finish, shall be named the new guild master and leader of the industry in this kingdom. This will allow us to set more tests for our trades and artisans as we move on."

From there he walks off to ask his inn keeper to start spreading the word post haste.

[OOC] When and where is this conversation taking place? Just as a reference point for myself and general continuity.

Lord Aizen looks up with his usual expressionless face into the mass of man and mustache that is Melchid Rock Bite.
"Ah, Iron Duke Melchid Rock Bite, for a man of your size and stature it never ceases to amaze me how you manage to appear as if from nowhere to converse with me."

He doesn't even bother looking up but continues to address Melchid from under his green and white striped hat.
"I trust you are well this day and cocksure of your efforts down in the southlands? Which reminds me, how did major Lovely handle the forest? All those webs and giant spiders can be a bit unnerving for some."

Scratching his nose for a moment Aizen continues, "I'm just back in town to oversee a few minor details at my estate and to prepare for the continuum of the Iron Ridge regional census. So much to do and so few people to do it. It certainly feels like a mountainous task."

Aizen pauses in thought for a moment before continuing, "On a different topic I am curious as to what happened to the young lady you bested in battle a few months back. Remember when you and I were escorting Furl of the shifting sands and his caravan out of the Iron Ridge? She seemed quite the skilled warrior and adept with that weapon of hers. From the looks of you afterward she definitely gave you a challenge. I wonder where she is now?"

He turns to his right slightly taking in the view around himself and the giant whilst continuing, "Please excuse my ramblings Iron Duke Melchid Rock Bite, what was your original question?

To clarify on that point in fairness. I imagine this would be at a sufficient time point back at the castle post the spider encounter. Which would place my timing after I managed affairs back at my estate.

Melchid grins broadly at his short companion. He strokes his moustache, bleets and begins.

"Baaaah. Aizen you seem to constantly drop the R. It's Rock Biter. You can't go round dropping your Rs people will talk.

Lovely? He was fine, the fresh air will do him good.

Linda was the lass' name. She has been held up in my estate. Prisoner of the kingdom. Don't worry she was well looked after. We have come to an agreement, she is to swear her allegiance to the king. She was not forced to make this decision she had a fair choice. She could choose between serving his grace or becoming a foot shorter.

My original question? I just wanted to know if you have come across any information about the location of Dwarven cities in you information gathering. If you haven't may I ask you keep an ear out for anything that may come up in conversation?"

Duke Aizen continues to stare past Melchid for a moment before turning back, "Nothing wrong with being short really, maybe you could try losing a little height sometime". Aizen's expression changes briefly into a wry smile then back to his usual expressionless face.

"I'll be happy to pass on anything I find that I might deem noteworthy to you Iron Duke Melchid Rock Bite. Now please excuse me, I fear this moment of peace will be short lived and I intend to make use of the time."

Duke Aizen politely bows to Duke Melchid before turning and flash-stepping away.
