I make sure that the bodies of the gnomes and fishermen are also taken back onboard to be taken back to land for a proper burial.
As the celebrations begin I will volunteer to tell the fishermens families of their loved ones demise offering condolences from myself and the rest of my fellow dukes. Once this task is complete I will make myself present as the townsfolk begin skinning Shullgothin allowing me to aquire at least a tower shields worth of still moist skin. I will then visit the house of supplies and purchase enough flasks of oil to smother the skin an keep it wet for the travel back to Blackwell, I also grab some extra oil just in case.

Upon returning back to Blackwell I will inform the deuces that their drinks n meals are on me as a token of our appreciation hopefully aiding in the rememberence of their fallen comrades.i then arrange for “care packages” to be sent to families of the dead fishermen from our encounter with Shullgothin.

Once we are alone I shall hand my sealed letter to Aizen, hopefully he can find some spare time this month to deliver it and return to me with good news. I will also use this meeting to get the specifications of the construction works that he will be needing help on

Arrow To Aizens projects i will dedicate 14 full days.

After questioning our resident “cartographer” I will try and obtain any relevant maps,reports,and/or any desciptions of paths travelled through the western mountains. i ask if he has any appretices as I am seekin the services of at least 5 people skilled in cartography to survey and produce a detailed map of the western quadrant of our lands for this service I let him know that I will pay handsomely for their time. Such a deal would include payment, new tools, horses/ponies for travel with the possibility of an armed escort and of coarse the priveledge of being held in high regaurd by the king and his five dukes. While in discussions I will let him know that this deal has to be in contract form and that it will no doubt lead to the other dukes obtaining his services.

Arrow Two days is spent in transit to the old dwarven mine where i will take an inventory in which i will try an tally up the amount of workers and tools that i have at my disposal aswell as identify a chain of command thats currently in place lol if any...
Arrow with two days return travel to Blackwell the remaing 12 days will be spent on structural repairs to the buildings of blackwell castle and road improvements within the "castle".

Ok, the costs of drink is so small to worry about. Work out how much you wish to spend on each care package and then deduct that from your treasury. The Gnomes families are not in Faraway.

Ok, i will get JD to speak for his intentions here.

Iron Region is without a resident cartographer as their was little call for a permanent one to reside here prior. You would have to send word to larger cities to try and contract one to perform your task.

This is probably a month long job for a single person for any real accuracy.

With your brief stay you estimate around 500+ goblins live and work in the mine. The quantity of usable tools is probably less then that number.

A tall and lanky goblin by the name of Stalky seems to be in charge of things.

.

  1. I would foremost like to dedicate my time to the completion of the collection of data for the Iron Ridge Regional Census 742DS. The remaining area is the western district I believe. This shall be my first priority.
  2. I would like to have Pridwyn organise the manor so my serfs can access basic amenities etc.
  3. Check the progress of the Barracks and the status of my serfs.
  4. Once I have figured time spent in total on projects this month I would like to elaborate on my plans for the serfs.

  • Aizen will accept the contract with Erd. The maths dictate 1hr 40m in a straight line, round that off to 2hrs, add the return trip, 4hr there and back plus waffle time and talking (Information gathering for the sake of being informed) time. Let's right off a day.
  • Erd's contractual obligations shall be to address my personal barracks and to design the stockade prototype.
  • Visitng Redport while I'm over there would be a good idea. Check out their vendors, etc using 2 of the 5 basic methods of market research (observation and personal interview), similar investigations into trade person availability, skill and prices. Getting a feel for the basic economy and availability in Redport.
  • I would like to flesh out the possibilities of recruiting trades people to bolster our trade force as well.
  • I could easily replicate this process to include Rivering on the way home (extending the total time to 2 days to allow for this).

  2. Using the information found in the census identify the most skilled/senior of each profession with the intention of appointing them as the guild master of said profession.

  3. Having appointed guild masters, establish trade guilds and begin assisting in the facilitation of charters and etc, to lay the foundation for all forward guild structure and activity.

  4. Appoint an 'Iron Trade Counsel' where each guild master convenes to discuss the activities, concerns and goals of each guild on a monthly basis.

  5. Obtain relevant information to plan and construct a stockade at Royalwell to help fortify and protect the investments in the area.

  6. Using the Royalwell stockade as a prototype initiate a plan to construct additional stockades at Ferryside, North Waterdam, Mudcrest and Carrwater.

  7. Send envoys to investigate the current state of affairs as well as needs and expectations of Carrwater, Royalwell, Ferryside, Mudcrest and North Waterdam.

  8. Establish an efficient and secure passage between aforementioned villages to facilitate trade routes, military easement, etc.

* I would like to assess and investigate the current situation with our farmlands. Current methods used, current yields and any improvements that may be made to increase production and efficiency of each yield. I would also like to investigate the possibility and requirements to establish agricultural irrigation throughout our farmland with water supplied by yet-to-be-built water-wheels build upon the river for this purpose.

Once the total time for these tasks has been stated I will no doubt fill in the spare with more machinations. You're welcome. Razz

First thing I will do after the battle and brief celebration is to order the Triple Deuces onto a formal parade.

"Platoon 222 attention. Cenotaph order arms. Salute. My good Gnomes we stand here in victory, but also defeat. Four good soldiers lost there lives at this epic battle. They will not be forgotten. Private Short Stack was a kind and gentle gnome but few shot as true as he. Lance Corporal Bannigan was tough and ugly but loyal to a fault. Bombardier Calahan could work a ballistia like it was a toy. And let's not forget private Snowball, he was short, extremely white and a damn fine gnome. We will not forget this day nor the lives these fine companions gave to make it glorious. Sergeant Dull, I will send word to the families of these Gnomes personally. I believe a collection has already been started for their loved ones and of course I will contribute. Now troops you are not to fret any more combat for a while. When we return you will set up new homes in the castle until a proper barracks is built on my soon to be commissioned estate. Your SGT will send for reinforcements and we will see the Triple Deuces back to full compliment before the new season. Everyone of you has earned my respect and will be considered my soldiers until the end of time. I salute you all. Now let us drink to the fallen and see the good in this. We were not mindlessly killing enemy troops. We weren't invading foreign lands. We were defending a village from a great and evil beast, and we deserve this victory dance. So Major Lovely is bringing you all a tankard. Attention, Right turn, 222 platoon by the left quick march. 222 Platoon by the left will change direction left, left wheel. 222 Platoon halt. Left turn. Take a knee boys. Raise your tankards boys and take a drink for the fallen souls".

My plan is to return to Blackwell castle. My first order is to set the 222 up in the castle and send word to their families.

Sgt Dull and I will begin a plan to send for reinforcements and return the platoon to 30 strong. (will touch on that in character section)

Following that my next goal is to return to my estate and address the matter of the slaves I purchased before we left. (again I will get to this in the character section soon)

Further plans to come.

i inform aizen of this problem before he leaves blackwell for my message home, if he can stop at rivering, dragonbarrow and redport in his travels to find the services of a "cartographer" basicaly offering the same deal as stated in my last post. looking into wether its a possibility to hire mercinaries from these towns would be a good idea Twisted Evil

If you can get 2 other players to agree to this then i am fine with it. Keep in mind this will put you much closer to your border defense deadline, so you better make good use of the time.

Ok with the 12 days you have allotted to this you can perform one of two options.

Option One - Repair the old and beaten outer wall; Blackwell castle is at least 200 years old and the outer walls have seen little maintenance since their original construction. With the 12 days you could improve the foundations of the wall, repair all the broken ramparts and restore the tower to a viable defensive position again.

Option Two - Repair the main keep and inner garrison; The years have been hard on the inner buildings as well. Shifting earth and harsh winters have made the halls of the keep drafty and cold, the well worn floors and stairs are rutted and precarious. 12 days spent with your talents could greatly improve the lives of all those who live and work in the keep, changing it from a unfriendly border fort into the begins of a castle fit for a king.

Ok the Barracks is complete to house 50 people. It includes one large living/sleeping area, a kitchen/mess area and a small latrine/washroom annex.

Pridwyn voices is concerns regarding controlling the slaves when you are absent from the region as the house staff are now quite heavily outnumbered.

Redport and Rivering are both large cities that dwarf Blackwell Castle in population. Dedicating a day to each city will give you a very basic overview of both cities, is this the intent of your action?

The farming techniques here are very different to what you are used to in your home land. This is mainly due to the climate and the annual rainfall levels. You believe the irrigation could be routed from the river but your lack of engineering skills mean you are unsure on how to make your vision a reality.

The current yields for the moment are low due to the poor season and the lack of farmers (both largely caused by strife in the area.) Major improvements to farming would be made through these routes;

- Stability - The local farmers need time to better establish themselves. Due to the ongoing strife the the region they have been forced to keep there operations small as most of their crops, livestock and seed is pilfered by passing warlords.

- Improved farming equipment - Their run of poor farming seasons has left the farmers impoverished. Many are using old broken equipment and their beasts of burden are often tiered and underfed.

- Manpower - The farmers are few and far between. Regardless whether from press-gangs, bandits, war parties, disease or famine, there are few able bodied men left to work the fields.

[PRIVATE ACTION] [PRIVATE CONVERSATION]

Iron Duke Aizen Steelbloom wishes to petition King Brutus Blackwell for his approval of appointing Linda 'lone wolf' as his personal attaché on the grounds that with his current commission, directives and responsibilities a subordinate is required to delegate minor tasks so as to allow more time to stay focused on immediate and crucial tasks.

Citations of merit may include the planning and execution of the quelling of Bold Stoneheart's uprising in the southern lowlands, as well as the current completion of the Iron Ridge regional census, cira August 742DS, where critical information for the realm has been obtained and collated for the future planning and prosperity of the Iron Ridge on behalf of his highness King Brutus Blackwell.

The former involved personal danger, leadership and bravery whilst keeping focused on the rescue of the King's subjects where the latter involved expansive travel by foot and personally interviewing the entire populace in pursuit of accurate record keeping for the realm.

Both are notable and commendable achievements in their own right but executed in the name of service to the true King of the Iron Ridge and it's people, King Blackwell.

Other points of note include the planning of;
  • defensible structures [stockades] to be constructed at strategic points throughout the realm,
  • heavy focus on improving the quality of life of the subjects through educational projects that expand to include filling our trades shortage
  • implementation of new techniques to improve manufacturing productivity and therefore profitability of all sectors in the kingdom.

As Linda has sworn an oath of fealty to his majesty she is now a loyal subject and therefore beholden to the King and his whim. The point here is that the duties of the Duchy are taxing and an extra set of hands will allow for more progress faster.

.

Shotgunning my thoughts and ideas...

I wonder if it were possible for myself to create a map based on the amount of travel I have recently undertaken? This would make a cartographer mostly redundant.

I have an idea for using the two Alotts that we managed to capture months ago.
Apparently they're herbivorous so the risk of using them around the populace is quite low.
My idea was to build two platforms upon them utilizing one as a carriage and one with a crane.
Pre-build sections of stockade [example] and load them onto carriage, march them out to sight with work crew, then erect said stockade [example] expediting construction of such large projects. Thoughts?

Some thoughts on our Farms;
  • Investigate the cost to purchase 1 month equivalent of farming production in 3rd party food stuffs,
  • Design and implement new farming equipment (have Blacksmith w/ argicultural exp.),
  • Implement any benefitial techniques to improve farming (from intercity or crowd sourcing),
  • Design and implement improvements to irrigation on agricultural land (water wheels etc),
  • Investigate the implementation of cattle farming (need sheep for food/wool & cows for milk/food/leather),
  • Investigate the implementation of flax/cotton/hemp for tailoring.

Anyone else got any ideas or want to play this game make any contributions?

I know there is a lot to do in the kingdom. However once I have dealt with my estate and charges I must head to the eastern mountains and visit my family. I will report on how things are there and try and return with some strong young giants to train for service.

Other points of note include the planning of;
  • defensible structures [stockades] to be constructed at strategic points throughout the realm,
  • heavy focus on improving the quality of life of the subjects through educational projects that expand to include filling our trades shortage

"Hahahahahahhaha.... I am not going to order that women to do anything with out an established and clear contract of employment. No no no, this is Rockbiters hole, if you want to jump into it after him then sort it out between the two of you. Hahahaha oath of fielty hahahahahahahahha.

Shotgunning my thoughts and ideas...

I wonder if it were possible for myself to create a map based on the amount of travel I have recently undertaken? This would make a cartographer mostly redundant.

You are more then able to do this as long as you don't require any decent level of accuracy. Cartography is an art form, not to be undervalued.

.

So re-capping our last session which was decided to be a 2 parter;
  • King & Duchy travelled to Rivering for the summer's end tournament
  • Aizen submitted Sunset for the night auction
  • Melchid volunteered to champion the Iron Ridge at the tourney
  • Micken signed up for the tourney
  • Aizen organised for an Agricultural Adviser to visit the Iron Ridge
  • Melchid contracted Cpt Peach and his mercs to police the Iron Ridge (2 yr contract @ 400g/month)
  • Aizen is having the mages academy to investigate Adam's Coin
  • King Blackwell drank so much he found his pants upon his head.
  • Aizen spent time advertising luctrative labor opportunities in the Iron Ridge (via various taverns)
  • END OF SESSION

Sorry if I left anything out. Please feel free to post any relevant info as well as contribute thoughts and ideas.

Yeah sorry for the slowness in posting, it has been a busy week.

You can all have 5 exp for the session.

Shamus gets an additional 5 for his work on increasing the defenses of the realm
Jd gets an additional 5 for his work improving the agricultural pursuits of the realm.

Edit:

As a side note, the mercenaries Melchid hired are known as "Peach's Irregulars"
