| Ok so due to lack of players for the power and Gavin game it is being ended. But moving forward the intention is to play an old school DnD style game based in the same world. We will be using the "Old School renascence" (OSR) system called Adventurer, Conqueror, King (its in the drop box already). Anyway.. It was decided that Faraway (the area of the world where the game will be set) requires more fleshing out and while contemplating how best to do that i came up with this idea for a game. Its still a work in progress but have a read and tell me what you think of the idea. - Stuff:
376DS – Year of the Swan
The war of falling leaves has been over for 7 years. Any elf from the Emerald Court that hasn’t kneeled before the Dol Serrothian Empire has been put to the sword or fled to the Feywild.
Emperor Grendor I is grown to an old man, his body shows the toll of the many years spent upon the throne and with every passing season a fear rots away within his gut. He fears for the strength of his legacy, the Dol Serrothian Empire, passed to him from his father before. His son Bannon IV is a strong and healthy man, a capable and fearless warrior tested in battle, but so far he is untested in statecraft. Even with the elves crushed the Empire still has many enemies poised to strike when the opportunity presents. The Dwarves of the Golden Hall have grown their armies, unwilling to take a side during the recent wars. And perhaps influenced by the fate of the elves they have withdrawn much of their presence from the lands of the Empire. Aside from the Dwarves sit the mysterious [ENTER COLECTIVE NAME FOR JD’s DWARVES] from across the ocean. While they play at friendship their stoic and manipulative nature has put the Emperor ill at ease. With these worries rattling around in his head the Emperor has set his sights on the distant lands of Faraway. Legends of Faraway’s bountiful wealth of iron and gold are a tale traded in inns and pot houses across the empire but until recently the location of Faraway was a well-guarded secret of the Dwarves, gifted only to the Golden Halls most trusted merchants. However ten years ago, thanks to the blood and toil of the emperor’s spymasters, the location of Faraway was stolen and the Emperor dispatched Admiral Rail with 10 great galleons to establish a colony in the Dol Serroth name. Admiral Rail made landing in a sheltered bay on Faraway’s southern coast and established the settlement of Port Newland. The Imperial legion has been struggling to maintain a foothold on Faraway ever since.
With the war of falling leaves well and truly concluded and the legions returned, Emperor Grendor I has now focused more of his attention on the land of Faraway. While Faraway is a gleaming prize, the empire’s coffers are still recovering and many of the noble families are calling for a time of peace, so a full scale invasion is not an option. Instead the Emperor has gifted parcels of land to many returning Imperil officers as reward for their service. He has also furnished a fleet of ships to carry willing imperial citizens to Port Newland along with criminals forced into indentured servitude.
Faraway is still a wild and dangerous land and the Imperial people will find no safety beyond the walls of Port Newland. The land is home to savage clans of hill people and beastmen, Nomadic Orc tribes and raging Giants. There are untamed forests, soaring mountain ranges and mysterious towers made by unknown hands. As a side note there is also all manner of wild beast, both magical and mundane.
The Golden Halls have a settlement known as Redport. It is hidden on Faraway’s west coast and the Dwarves already have mines dug deep into the earth where they are told to be dragging up gold and iron hand over fist.
So why would anybody wish to come to Faraway? It is a dangerous land yes, but it is also a land of hope, wonder and oppertunity. For many it is a chance at a new life, an escape from the poverty of life in the lower classes of the Empire. A place where your skills and determination hold just as much weight as the name of your father. Perhaps you seek a refuge to hide from the Imperial Justicars. Sick of being harried at every turn in the imperial homelands. Maybe you are of noble birth looking to make a name for yourself by securing new wealth and land. Or maybe your family has fallen on hard times and a trip to Faraway is a desperate gamble to gather enough coin to keep the debt collectors at bay. Maybe you are an Elf of the Emerald Court trying to find a home outside the Empires strict rule.
…this is as far as I have got.
Anyway.. have a read and let me know what you think. | |
