| Here is some info on the more prominent Fanes of gun metal city. - The Fane of Doru:
The Fane of Doru
History: This Fane was created by the Skaelen-Har Hegemony in an attempt to spread their market from shipbuilding to armament production. Even though this Fane is made up of Gunmetal locals it is often looked down upon by the other Fanes, who see this as nothing more than an attempt by the Skaelen-Har to overstep their bounds and take control of the entire military. They have fought off numerous raids from the other Fanes, in addition to overcoming their reputation for shoddy quality merchandise. Most recently they tried an unsuccessful takeover of Fane Takara. By being beaten back, having been unable to even dent the Takara status quo of production, they have lost tremendous respect and are in great danger of losing their place of prominence.
Weapons Produced: The Doru are known for producing mass quantity weapons in far greater supply than the others Fanes. They are the people you call when you need to get a large fighting force armed quickly. However, as mentioned before, they are not known for their quality. Thus they primarily cater to Planetary Defense Forces where the lack in quality won't be noticed or design ammunition, seeing as how the quality of bullet doesn't matter much when they are shot out at high-rates.
Practices: Almost every single member of Doru has had some part of their body replaced with a bionic. This is to symbolize their giving up a part of themselves to the Skaelen-Har Ideals. They also all have a belief that displays of emotion are wrong and that only through the strict application of pure, undiluted logic can they prosper. They also all apply a strict code to guide their actions, which allows them to make split second decisions, even though these decisions often don't reflect the human element.
Customs/Etiquette: Any overly large display of emotion is looked down upon. Doru's leaders, like the Skaelen-Har Hegemony's leaders, do not believe in small talk. Everything is straight to business. They seem brisk, but their cold manner should not be taken as hostility. Any kind of offense will be met by one of their cybernetically enhanced duelists. It is advised that you avoid this. Commenting on the fact that their workmanship is sub-par will be considered a serious offense and a duel to the death will ensue. Logic will sway those who work for Doru, not emotion.
- The Forge of Fykos:
The Forge of Fykos
History: The Fykos Fane is so ancient that it is referred to by the archaic term, "Forge". They are the oldest of the Fanes and can trace their line back to the original founders of Gunmetal City. They tend not to go to war unless they absolutely must, noticing that production decreases and worker pay increases when lives are at stake. The few times that they have gone to war have been absolutely devestating, seeing entire section of the Gunmetal City Hive decimated. They have been quick to stop these wars though, seeing as how all the other Fanes will use this as an excuse to unite against them. Weapons Produced:The Fykos Forges are the greatest of gunsmiths. Anything they produce, from the basic laspistol to the infamous and shadowy Bolt Carbines that fire off Astrates Bolt Shells, is of the utmost quality.
Practices: Those of the Fykos Fane are easily distinguished by their bright and oppulent garb. Their weapons are equally well crafted and even the lowliest of their group will spend hours embroidering their gun with sodered on Imperial Eagles and the like. In addition, they walk with a considerable amount of swagger and are quick to attempt to get into duels to prove their might and worth.
Customs/Etiquette: Refering to them as the "Fykos Fane" as opposed to the "Fykos Forge" is considered to be a minor insult. A duel to the first blood is the commonly accepted way to resolve these disputes. An insult to the quality of the weapons of the Fykos Forge will results in a duel to the death. Incinuating that the commonly held stereotype of Fykos Forge members being effete and arrogant will result in a duel to the first blood. Insulting the Fykos Forge's leader (no name included seeing as how this commonly changes due to duels to the death) or the member's family will result in a duel to the death. Insulting the Fykos Forge's extended family or his or direct superior will result in a duel to the maiming. Striking a Fykos Forge member will result in a duel to the death. Slapping a Fykos Forge member will result in a duel to the first blood, seeing as how this is a common way they challenge each other. Damaging (purposely or otherwise) a Fykos Forge's workshop will result in a duel to the maiming. A typical greeting for the Fykos Forge is exchanged bows. Not doing so is grounds for a duel to the first blood. A typical depature for the Fykos Forge is a shorter bow, more akin to a nod of the head. Not doing so is grounds for a duel to the first blood. It is considered a Faux Pas to not make small talk before a meeting. No duels result from this.
- The Forge of Khayer-Addin:
The Forge of Khayer-Addin
History: The family is descended from the fallen Rogue Trader Khayer-Addin. Their founder, Descipio Addin, lost his trading carta for shipping a large amount of Xenos-Weaponry. It is rumored that these were shipments to a Radical Ordo Xenos Inquisitor seeing as how he was not instantly executed for this offense. Descipio Addin had kept several STC templates from the Adeptus Mechanicus and, with these as a bargaining chip, married into the Khayer family. In recongition of this union, the Forge, a long-time competitor of the Fykos Forge, changed its name to Khayer- Addin. The new weaponry lead to the Khayer-Addin forge becoming a serious force to the reckoned with, until Fykos called in the Adpetus Mechanicus as to the unreported STC templates. The Khayer-Addin family survived, again rumored thanks to their Inquisitorial contacts, and gave the STC templates over to the Mechanicus, resulting in new solid projectile weaponry coming into the hands of the Emperor's Armies. To continue to be a great behemoth, Khayer- Addin has broken the rule of never altering the Imperium's Weaponry. However, the Adeptus Mechanicus turns a blind eye to this, in some cases stealing the adjustments. It is rumored that shadowy deals were made to attain this blind-eye status.
Weapons Produced: The Khayer-Addin Forge produces some of the greatest guns and blades that the Sector has ever seen. They are infamous for catering to the nobility of the sector, giving them weaponry custom made for specific purposes, such as duelling lasers and hunting rifles capable of taking down three-story tall Carnosaurs with a single shot from 250 meters away. Practices: The Khayer-Addin attire themselves in the form of Rogue Traders with elegant, yet functional clothing. Their duelling lasers are kept in strapless holsters and used as need be. The Khayer-Addin are noted as never fighting to the first blood, but only to the death. This is presumably because of the fact that their weapons are so overly powered, that the first blood almost always is a killshot.
Customs/Etiquette: Insulting the quality of their weaponry will result in laughter and a non-lethal demonstration of its potency. Another insult will result in a duel to the death. The Khayer-Addin give respect when it is given to them, unlike most who demand it and give it based on status. You must do something rather impressive to earn their true respect as well. The Khayer-Addin are reluctant to duel and will give the offending party a chance to apologize. If they do not, then it is a duel to the death. The offenses for duels are generally the same as the Forges of Fykos. When talking about business, the Khayer-Addin family only do so after drinking a bit and a few minutes of small talk. Emotional appeals to honor and duty will sway the Khayer-Addin.
- The Fane of Orthlack:
The Fane of Orthlack
History: Very little is known about this Fane's early history. What is known is that they have backed Sector Lord Hax since his very first attempts to become Planetary Governor. As can be imagined this has resulted to them rising to prominance. They are old enough to have earned the title of "The Forge", yet they being one of the most conserative of Fanes feel that they should only be referred to by the proper title.
Weapons Produced: They produce all weaponry and are not particularly noted as producing anything special, beyond having a remarkable amount of influence in sector politics. Practices: Being one of the older Fanes, the Orthlacks cling to ancient traditions like no one else. They dress in the garb of the planet's ancient nobles and conduct themselves as such. They also rarely travel out of their fortified palace-strongholds, demanding that guests come to them.
Customs/Etiquette: All guests are expected to wear ancient noble garb. Those that don't will be sent away immediately. Insults are not dealt with by duel. They're dealt with by assassins being sent out. There is to be a period of polite small talk before getting down to business. During the business discussion, there is to be an outline of the proposal and each side will go back and forth making counter-proposals. At the end of the time, you must either accept, reject, or promise to get back with them later. if you do not get back with them, then there will be an assassin knocking at your door asking for a duel to the first blood. Should you not accept the duel, then there will be an impromptu duel to the death. Should you kill the assassin, then a group of assassins will be sent after you.
- The Fane of Takara:
The Fane of Takara
History: This new, up, and coming Fane is known for its connection to the Adeptus Mechanicus. It is unknown how tightly connected the Fane is with them, but it has been noted that the occasional Tech-Priest from the Sollex Sect comes to inspect their forges. Recently they have fought off a full-scale hostile takeover by the Doru Fane. This has caused them to rise in esteem and power greatly.
Weapons Produced: The Takara Fane is famous for their laser weaponry and laser-based devices. It is rumored that this is thanks to their connection to the Sollex Sect, but has not been proven one way or another. Practices: This Fane is noted for worshiping the Emperor in his aspect as the Omnissah by their leadership. They dress less oppulantly than the Fykos Fane, but far more so than the Forge of Khayer-Addin.
Customs/Etiquette: Referring to the God-Emperor as anything other than the Omnissah in front of the Fane's leadership is conisdered a Faux Pas. Insulting the Adeptus Mechanicus will result in a duel to the first blood. The Takara Fane will go straight to business, then dismiss
- The Fane of Westingkrup:
The Fane of Westingkrup
History: This Fane has gone to war with every Fane at one point or another. They have extended contacts with several dozen criminal organizations (regular criminal, nothing heretical, therefore the Inquisition does not care). They are known also for having extended contacts with the Enforcers and have been trying to make contacts with the Adeptus Arbites.
Weapons Produced: Westingkrup is famous for its production of cheap, but reliable solid projectile weaponry. Practices: The Westinkrup Fane is known for dressing in large leather trenchcoats and wearing spiked helmets. They are never seen without armor or weaponry. There is no formal code of conduct and they consider such things to be pointless. Were it not for their tendency to go into battle on the slightest provcation, the other houses would take issue with this.
Customs/Etiquette: There is confirmed Westinkrup code of conduct or any type of etiquette to be followed. The only thing that can be said is not to insult them, they're known for attemtping to find any excuse to duel. In fact, it has even been recorded that they will occasionally duel to the first blood as a way of introduction. As can be imagined, Westinkrup has some of the best medical personelle in the entire Hive of Gunmetal City.
- The Gamdo Family:
The Gamdo Family
History: The Gamdo family has dozens of thick books on their history. To sum it up in a few words: They started as traders in several dozen illicit narcotics. After several close run-ins with the law, almost having the entire family destroyed by Arbitrators for being connected to seditious cults, they decided to go to something much safer: Gun running. They found a market on Scintilla where guns are tightly controlled. Lord Hax does not particularly care about this, seeing as how the Gamdo family has made several dozen donations to his family's holdings in the form of rare, expensive artwork. The Gamdo family does pride itself on their contribution to the arts.
Weapons Produced: Like all of the Malfian Families, if you have the money they will get the weapon for you. Practices: Being from Malfi, the Gambdos have no partiuclar customs, besides the family crest electooed upon all their memer's heads. With the exception of ambassadors and heads of the family, who have their crest surgically transfered to the top of their hand to represent the fact that the power now rests within their hands as opposed to being the controlling part of their life.
Customs/Etiquette: The Gamdos will not act according to any custom or etiquette, instead assuming you to take the initiative and set the pace.
- The Belasco Family:
The Belasco Family
History: The Belasco Family started as a group of assassins and has become one of the largest and most discrete arms dealers in the entire sector. They also have the largest private group of assassins in the entire sector. Their line was glorious and known for their nobility, until Tobias Belasco came around. He brought shame upon that family, a shame that they have sent literally hundreds of assassins out to expunge. The family has openly stated they will stop at nothing to kill this black sheep and, judging by the number of Tobias's operations that have been totally decimated by dozens of heavily armed men, the Belasco family does mean it.
Weapons Produced: Like all of the Malfian Families, if you have the money they will get the weapon for you. Practices: The Belasco dress formally, yet do not comport themselves as such. They will conform to any situation they are placed in, just like the rest of the Malfi culture. It is also an open secret that the Belasco family's ambassador serve a duel role as spies/assassins.
Customs/Etiquette: So long as you do not mention Tobias Belasco, then you will be fine. Mention of his name will result in great pain. The Emperor will not judge you by your medals and diplomas but by your scars. | |
