I spend some time getting a feel for my holdings. First I head down to the Inn. I will introduce myself to the Buckwoods. I would lke to get a feel for the building and how accessible it is for a 10 foot duke.

The Moose head is best described as homely, the main part of the building is stone and looks old but sturdy. It was built with high ceilings, most likely to allow the smoke from the many fires to escape somewhere; because of this you are able to get around the main drinking hall and the kitchen with out having to stoop too much. The rear extensions that include the Inn keepers residence and the guest rooms look much more recent. They are constructed out of timber and poorly plastered walls and the ceilings are not much higher the 6ft making them difficult for you to traverse.

The Buckwoods are a small family of the native mountain folk, lead by a grizzled old man named Ike. Ike is a man of few words but seems respectful and answers any of your questions to the best of his abilities.

Ehhh i will think about it.

Secondly I would like to head down to the mines and check them out.

The Goblin mine is a decent trek to the south east along an old and well worn path. The stink of Goblins lets you know that you are close to your destination long before you can see or hear it.
On the surface the mine looks like a ramshackle Goblin village, with dozens of the stinky pests running this way and that. With a closer inspection you notice dozens of small mine shafts cutting directly into the mountain, some horizontal and some death drops going straight down into the earth.
The process seems to lack any semblance of order and seems to rely heavily on back breaking manual labor. Just looking across the main section of the village you can see goblins hoisting buckets of rock and stone up out of mine shafts, goblins sleeping on the side of walking tracks, goblins fighting, eating, trading, fucking and all manner of feral activities.
After about 40 minutes of yelling you are finally approached by a over weight and heavily scared goblin who introduces himself as Phut. With broken common he informs you that he is the chief of this mining tribe and that he overseas the trading of ore for goods between the goblins and the Emperors steward. Once you have explained that he will be dealing with you now he takes you on a quick tour of the site. The tour includes a few of the larger and more active shafts and the area where all the mined ore is pilled waiting for the cart teams from Blackwell to come and pick it up.

"Now Then, Now then now then, then now, now then then then now now then. Right right rightio. BAH. Lovely can you continue the tour with this chief and see what the Phut is going on. Bah Bahhahaha. See what I did there Lovely? I want you to take a good inventory of the mining area. Report to me with a number of active mines, inactive shafts and why they are inactive and how many workers we have here. I want to know how all ore is accounted for, where it goes and how much it pulls in. I would also like to see how much of it Phut thinks ends up in pockets and figure out a way to improve that for our coffers. Right Lovely you know what I want, you can think of the details and report back to me on everything I need to know. I am heading back to the Inn to do the same thing there.

"Sir?!?!... er...if i could have a moment to confirm the parameters of your order sir? You want me to single-handedly tour and inventory an un-quantified network of un-retained mining tunnels and sink holes, occupied by hundreds if not thousands of uncivilized, psychopathic, cannibalistic, homicidal and amoral Goblins, who seem to hold no sense of their own mortality or mine for that matter. After which I am to audit the operation records kept by a species with no written language of their own and only the faintest concept of what the words "written language" actually mean, with the express purpose of uncovering the possibility of embezzlement being carried out by a race once generously described by his grace, the Arch Bishop Arcala, as a pack of thieving cunts. Then upon completion of these two tasks, using my experience in excavation and accounting, create a dossier detailing all possible strategies to increase efficiency within every facet of this operation, sir?!?!? are you sure you couldn't use my assistance with the Inn first?"

ooc:

Major Lovely are we going to have a repeat of the battle at Stone's End? Honestly do I have to everything myself? It is really quite simple. You coordinate the entire goblin settlement, teach them common, value our assets and create a new infrastructure. Oh very well my Lovely. At the very least get a report of the recent trade from Phut and figure out what we can expect to make out of this place in the next month. Then we will head back to the Inn. For now I will make myself known and put the old fear into them. It's like we used to sing back in Helmsway 'Row row row your boat gently down the stream, belts off trousers down isn't life a scream?' Baaaah.

Once back in town I head home to Melchid Manor. I approach Winston and ask him to make some minor adjustments for now.

"Winston, your brother tells me you are the man to fix things around here. Now although the main house is more than big enough for me to navigate I fear I may have some trouble sleeping in the bed in the main chamber. Now be a good chap and alter it according to my ample frame. I believe the wardrobes should be fine as most of these estates seem to have been built for people with delusions of grandeur and most other aspects of the house are fine. Please make adjustments to the bathing chamber as well my good man."

After this I will head to the Inn.

"Ike, I hate to force my beautiful mustache at you again so soon. I need to know how much earnings we have at the moment and what I can take. Next I wonder what you believe in you experience could be done to the place to help us bring in more coin."

Lovely returns to you well after sundown. He reports that while he is unsure how much of the ore the Goblins keep for themselves he doubts it is very much as they seem to place a much higher value on the worked steel goods and foodstuffs for which they trade the ore to you.
As for improving the infrastructure he reports that it is hard to tell how everything is done as most of it happens below ground, in mining shafts, that are forever collapsing on themselves and getting redug. From what he understands the majority of the goblins live in a large underground village known as "the Dank". It is apparently built in a series of natural caves deep below the surface.

"Sir if you really want to improve on the operations of the mine then you need to find away of removing the Goblins and inserting a more orthodox workforce. As to how you would achieve this goal i am currently at a loss."

Correct me if i am wrong, but are you insinuating that you spend some amount of time sodomizing goblins?

The house is generally ok for your size as long as you are willing to stoop low to get through door frames and keep an eye out for low flying chandeliers.

Winston can make alterations to the bed with out to much delay but a bath suitable to one of your stature would require the skills of tradesmen. Unfortunately you do not currently have such a tradesmen in your list of serfs but for 50g Winston should be able to make the appropriate arrangements by the end of the month.

Ike is able to provide half a months due at the point in time, a sum of about 50g. As for improving the earning of the Inn Ike has the following suggestions.

"Deh way i has it figured sire dey ain't not but many ways we can achieve sometin' of deh likes of dat. Deh first way would be to charge all dem folk dat currently frequent de Moose of a night more for der meal and drink. More den likely dis will mean less o' dem will come n', deh coin will be about same. Other option is to get more folk into town. When the town is full 'o merchants during the summer we collect much more coin. In deh winter, not so good. Stands to reason, more people means more money. As long as dey in town it ain't like dey got much else place to go."

Melchid will take the 50 off Ike and take it to Winston. As for the Inn I will stay for a meal and get a better feel for Ike and his Family.

Side note; Its not currently possible to "rush" income out of the mine, it takes time to run the stuff to smelt and get it traded and converted into GP. You get the monthly earnings at the start of the next month.

I imaged that was the case but turn a goblin upside down and some coins bound to fall.

"Yes sir! of course sir! I should point out that the imperial mail system has more or less fallen over since the imperial armies withdrawal from this region and what birds were left in the rookery were all trained to fly to the tower in Newport. I have sent message with all the reputable traders passing through the region as well as many river barge captains and assorted traveler's.
Unfortunately sir i have no responses to report as yet, but i feel it should be noted that the messages were dispatched less then a month ago by what ever means available. Some of them may not even be out of the Iron ridge region yet.... er... sir."

In the time between sessions.

Once returned from the mountain ranges I help Erd rest and heal as much as I can.

"Erd, that is what they call you isn't it? Erd you're a good man. You damn near saved my hide out there and that is something few people can claim. I know what we did plays on your mind and I want you to rest up and get better as soon as you can BAHH. For when you are well I have a task I could use your help with".

I would like to take Erd to the goblin mine if he does not object. Lovely and I will assess any damage caused in the raids and see what can be done to get the work force back to capacity. Then I would like to discuss with the Goblin foreman if production could be increased if we could open up shafts and tunnels that have heretofore collapsed. I would like to utilize the abilities of our earth bending companion to sure up the mines a bit and help open fruitful veins.

To cut down travel time I will carry my companions and cover the large distances with my super jumping ability.

One week should be enough (including travel)

the rest of my month i wish to spend at the base of the avalanche site offering services such as house repairs, preparing new feilds for crops clearing debris etc.
I will also construct a memorial honoring the people killed in the avalanche, while still trying to give us much as i can i will still need to rest up during this time as well.

at least two or three days this month will be spent meditating, giving me time to reflect upon my actions

Ok Erd, taking into account the cracked rib and the travel time that gives you about 4 days solid work time in the mine.

The inner workings of the mine look more like a retarded rabbits warren rather then a mining operation. After a hand full of confusing hours trying to figure out the key points and areas of issue, you decide to just "go with it". You shore up and widen two of the main thoroughfares the goblins use so that they no longer have to dry hump each other as they pass. A couple of the more "senior" goblins lead you to important tunnels that regularly cave in and with some carefully adjustments, you alter the terrain to hopefully prevent it from happening in the future.

At the end of your time in the mine you get the feeling that you have done little more then scratch the surface of the issues present. The main issue being the Goblins. In fact you would go so far as to say, the average Goblin miner probably thinks undermining is where you dig near your feet rather then up at head height.

If Erd is trying to rest his cracked rib. You means of transportation probably doesn't aid with that goal. Also i think we discovered he can only do 90lbs per second not 900lbs.

I would again like to see if I could borrow Erd for a brief period this month and do a bit more work in the mine. I understand that the mine is a goblin one but if we could sure up one tunnel per month I could see production increase steadily.

I will spend some time in my manor. I will head down to see Linda and talk to her briefly.

"Linda. This is getting ridiculous. I am not a heartless man but I am loyal to my king. Although I am not heartless I am also not a rube. I will give you one more chance to swear your allegiance to the king and concede to being my ward or you will be taken before the king to face his justice. Now take a knee and confess to your crimes and swear to fight loyally for King Brutus or my axe will make it very hard for you to wear a hat."

I will make an intimidation roll with a plus for penetrating voice, then I will make a leadership roll to try and convince her to join us. With a plus from voice.

"Drumknot I have taken in some gold and wish to see how much you need for sundries and other works about the manor?"

Then I shall see Winston.

"Winston how are the grounds? Do you need any more coin for the works I had you doing on the house?"

I shall then head to the inn.

"Buckwood. Before you hand over that gold, do you need any of it to make some improvements around here?"
